Background

The client approached Amuna wanting the most cost-effective stormwater solution available for a proposed bus depot.

The problem

The site needed both water quality treatment and on-site detention. Delivering both conventionally would have meant significant excavation, an extensive pit and pipe network, and tank storage — all capital cost the client wanted to avoid.

Our solution

We assessed the site, the architectural drawings and council's minimum requirements, then presented the client with several options for reducing cost through the design and modelling process.

The adopted solution cut site excavation and reduced the extent of pit and pipe network. Most significantly, the site's topography let us build the detention into the surface of the parking areas — avoiding both an underground and an above-ground tank.

Proposing a surface detention tank ended up saving an additional 45 m3 of excavation.
