Background
The development converted an existing commercial building to residential use.
The problem
Three problems at once, and Amuna was engaged to resolve all of them. The building sits wall-to-wall on its boundaries, leaving nowhere obvious to run stormwater pipes. The site is surrounded by floodwater in large storm events, raising real concerns about basement inundation. And an existing driveway had to be removed and replaced with footpath.
Our solution
We designed a gravity stormwater system discharging all roof runoff safely to the street, with the pipe runs concealed internally within the building's walls — no external downpipes on a wall-to-wall façade, and no pumping.
For the flood risk, we specified a flood gate to address the basement inundation concern directly, rather than through the more disruptive alternative of raising levels.
For the public domain, we designed the driveway removal and set new footpath levels to give safe, continuous pedestrian access along the frontage.
Was it approved? Yes.
